AKRON, Ohio, April 7, 2015 – More than 2,000 students, accompanied by 1,000 parents and teachers from across the Northeast Ohio area will visit The University of Akron on April 18, for the 16th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day, formerly Engineering Career Day. During this competition, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ: GT) will award more than $40,000 in grants and scholarships to students and teachers from local high schools and middle schools.
Who: |
You will have the opportunity to interact with groups of students, parents, teachers and business leaders from Northeast Ohio who will attend this event. Several universities, along with more than 30 Akron/Cleveland-area corporations will have representatives present for an informational fair, panel discussions and hands-on demonstrations to help students learn about careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Goodyear's Chief Executive Officer Richard Kramer will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will be available for interviews. |
|
|
What: |
Students will rotate through a series of panel presentations and demonstrations from local organizations. They will then be challenged with a zombie apocalypse-themed hands-on competition requiring use of engineering acumen to design and build a mechanical system. The system they build will allow them to pick up "supplies" while remaining out of reach of the "undead." The day will end with the announcement of scholarship and Rube Goldberg Challenge™ grant winners made by Joe Zekoski, Goodyear's Chief Technical Officer. |
