AKRON, Ohio, April 29, 2016 - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will award more than $52,000 in grants and scholarships to students and teachers from local high schools and middle schools during the 17th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day. More than 2,000 students, accompanied by nearly 500 parents and teachers from across the Northeast Ohio area will visit The University of Akron on Saturday, April 30 for the event.
Who: You will have the opportunity to interact with groups of students, parents, teachers and business leaders from Northeast Ohio who will attend this event. Several universities, along with more than 40 Akron/Cleveland-area corporations will have representatives present for an informational fair and hands-on demonstrations to help students learn more about careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
What: Students will rotate through a series of panel demonstrations conducted by local organizations. They will then be challenged with a future-themed hands-on competition requiring use of engineering acumen to design and build a mechanical system. One of these hands-on activities will be a future-themed challenge requiring students to design and build a mechanical system. The system they build will allow them to bring a fragile, newly discovered fuel source back to their crashed spaceship so they can get back home to Earth. The day will end with the announcement of scholarship and Rube Goldberg Challenge™ grant winners awarded by Joseph Zekoski, Goodyear's Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer.
