More than 500 High School Students Accept Goodyear's 19th Annual STEM Career Day Challenge

AKRON, Ohio, April 24, 2017 – The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ: GT) will award $28,000 in grants and scholarships to students and teachers from Northeast Ohio high schools during the 19th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day. More than 500 students from across the region, accompanied by parents and teachers, will visit The University of Akron's Student Union on April 29 for the event.

Who: You will have the opportunity to interact with groups of students, parents, teachers and business leaders from Northeast Ohio who will attend this event.  Several universities, along with more than 15 Akron/Cleveland-area corporations will have representatives present for an informational fair to help students learn more about careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

What: Students will rotate through three activities. They will be given the opportunity to discover the Microsoft Hololense (the first self-contained, holographic computer), engage with the designer of Goodyear's Eagle-360 concept tire, as well as participate in speed mentoring. Tours of The University of Akron's campus and STEM facilities will also be offered to both students and parents throughout the day. The event will close with the announcement of scholarship and Rube Goldberg Challenge™ grant winners awarded by Brandy Moorhead, Goodyear's director of global tire and mold engineering.

When:    Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to noon

    • Opening Remarks – 8 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
    • Information Fair and Rube Goldberg Demonstrations – 8:15 a.m. to 9:55 a.m.
    • Hands-on Activity Rotation – 10 a.m. to noon
    • Awards – noon to 12:15 p.m.

A subsequent event for middle school students (grades 6-8) will be held the following Saturday, May 5, at Akron Public's Firestone High School from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
