AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) selected Aiman Abdrabou as the 2014 International Energy Manager of the Year. Abdrabou is Global Manager—Energy & Greenhouse Gas (GHG) for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ: GT).
The International Energy Manager of the Year Award is recognition for an individual who has excelled in promoting the practices and principles of energy engineering and management. Abdrabou will receive the award October 1, in Washington, D.C., at the AEE World Energy Engineering Congress, which will feature a keynote address by former President Bill Clinton.
"I am thrilled and honored to receive this award on behalf of Goodyear and the associates all over the world who work daily to improve our energy efficiency," said Abdrabou. "This is in recognition of the team effort it takes to improve energy efficiency on a global scale."
Abdrabou leads a team of regional energy and GHG managers who have helped the company's efforts to reduce energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions. In recent years, the team developed a new company standard for energy conservation, founded a global energy system based on the elements of continuous improvement and encouraged the continuing education of regional and plant energy leaders, with 30 associates recently becoming Certified Energy Managers. The team also led the effort to link the energy meters from each of Goodyear's manufacturing plants around the world to one central system to allow for global monitoring.
"Through Aiman's leadership and the work of the global, regional and plant energy teams, we have been able to make solid progress in reducing Goodyear's environmental impact," said Don Stanley, vice president, Product Quality and Plant Technology. "By the end of 2013, we had reduced both energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions by 9 percent from the baseline established in 2010, keeping us well on track to meet our goal of reducing energy usage and emissions 15 percent by 2015."
